Maybe corvettes get cute and quirky names, so long as they're not the ONI prowlers. Ships of all types receive names seemingly at random with Carriers holding names of battles as well as famous vessels, Frigates holding names such as In Amber Clad, Meriwether-Lewis and Paris and Destroyers holding names such as Iroquois, Clearidas and the interestingly named Are You Feeling Lucky?
There doesn't seem to be any formal naming convention. Some Sci-fi uses battle names, navy uses people and historical figures, for the UNSC it's poetic idioms. UNSC names always sound to me like they're excerpted from poetry. Who would win Go here for questions about who would win in a fight or competition between two or more characters. This subreddit is for discussion of fiction using information about the universe and not meta information about the work. Doylist perspective can be found herehereand in the dictionary definitions of the two terms. Use in-universe knowledge, rules, and common sense to answer the questions. It's like Ask Science, but all questions and answers are written with answers gleaned from the universe itself.
